Situated in the Arroyo Seco AVA and part of the Monterey County Wine Trail, this vineyard is located at the northwest corner of Thorne Road and Los Coches Road, approximately 2 miles west of Greenfield and 6.5 miles south of Soledad.

Property Description:

Originally developed in 1982 by Wente Bros. on 12'x8' spacing, the inner rows were planted in 1998 resulting in a vineyard with 6'x8' spacing on VSP trellis.  Since 2000, portions of the vineyard rows were interplanted resulting in a high density that averages 1,382 plants per net acre.  Chardonnay is planted on 77% of the vineyard w/ the balance ideal for premium wine blending.

Arroyo Seco AVA:
This AVA enjoys a cool coastal climate, gravelly and sandy loam soils, and one of the longest growing seasons in California.  Known for its award winning Chardonnay.


Arroyo Seco & Tujunga Series make up approximately 95% of the soil type and Xerorthents Series 5%.


One well provides 500 gpm of exceptionally clean water with nitrate levels at only 1ppm.  Irrigation is provided by a combination of overhead and drip, with new drip lines and pressure compensating emitters installed in 2012-2013.

Building Description:

Two older barns and a garage/shop building are on site that also provides for a potential winery facility.
